What is proposed

The Kaikohe Business Association is embarking on process to create a Business Improvement District (BID) for Kaikohe.   The Association is developing a vision for Kaikohe that revitalises the town, grows business and attracts people to visit and do business.  Association Chairperson, Steve Sangster, says “a successful BID will mean that the town has a basis to build in a sustainable manner on new initiatives already underway or planned for the next five years”.  The BID will be a levy on all commercial or industrial land owners in Kaikohe.

The Association believes that the funding received through the BID will be a catalyst to lever other funding to make Kaikohe a vibrant and attractive place for business.  “At the beginning of October the Association received a grant from Pub Charities that will be used to improve town signage, provide more information to visitors and help promote the town”.   The Kaikohe Hokianga Community Board has agreed to financially assist the Association to employ a part time ‘town manager’ to actively promote the town and oversee the initiatives being put in place.
