Otaua Community Art Exhibition

Small communities can sometimes achieve tremendous results from their endeavours. Such an outcome occurred last week with the Art Exhibition mounted in Kaikohe by the Otaua Community. The organisers are to be commended on their initiative.
The works displayed a wide diversity of skill and creativity and were created by school pupils as well as older very talented artists and artisans. Judging by the response of many members of the public who passed through the exhibition during the week, the organiser may very well be encouraged to arrange another function to showcase the community’s other talents.
Or, other communities may rise to the challenge and mount their own exhibitions.
This display of art complements the establishment of the businesses that have opened recently in Kaikohe. With the advent of the Cycle Trail, Pou Herenga Tai, and the gradual growth in numbers of tourists that pass through the town it is highly possible that the character of Kaikohe will change. Kaikohe, the centre of the North and the heart of Ngapuhi, has the potential to become known as the creative arts centre of the North.
