The LeRoys moved to Kaikohe in 1959 and it wasnt long before Rona started getting involved in the community. She started playing bowls in 1962 and won her first tournament that year.
The LeRoy Triples Tournament was started by Rona in 1988. She was committed to getting young and old playing bowls and so she decided to encourage others to get along, she would sponsor a tournament for those who had played for less than 10 years.
When Rona passed away her husband David LeRoy and son Graham carried on the tradition until Davids passing.
David & Rona LeRoy's children all decided to carry on what their mother started by sponsoring the tournament in honour of their parents.
Valerie, Christine, Nancy & Graham travel to Kaikohe from as far away as Australia & Whangamata to organise, cook and make sure the day is enjoyable for everyone who comes along.

They put on a magnificent lunch, morning and afternoon tea for all the players.
They also sponsor a raffle and prizes ranging from $100 per player for first place, $70 per player for second place and $30 per player for third.
The tournament this year was held in perfect conditions with the sun shining and only a slight breeze. Teams travelled from all over the North to participate.
This years tournament winners were:
1st Place: Ian Holley, Chris Price, Christine Hodgen
2nd Place: Arthur Tan, Carol Cole, Phil Morgan
3rd Place: Chester Ruawhare, Kenny Mokaraka, Carol Smith
Kenny Mokaraka (3RD Place) was the youngest player, only 10 years old. He is a star in the making and it was such a pleasure watching him play with his Grandfather. Rona would be so proud. It is her dream come true.

Kaikohe Bowls Club is a wonderful family club and they would encourage as many families as possible to get along and learn the game. There is no age restriction.
The LeRoy family would love to see many more like Kenny and his grandfather next year at the LeRoy Triples.
